Well most nutrition experts agree that snacking is part of a healthy diet. It is important that these snacks are as healthy as possible. The following is a list of some fun, quick and easy snacks that kids can help you make.

Ladybugs on a Stick

What you need:   Red Grapes, Chocolate chips, Strawberries , Melon, Wooden Skewers

What you do:  For each one, push half of a red grape onto a wooden skewer for the head.  Next, push on the strawberry body and score the back to create wings.  For spots, use a toothpick to gently press chocolate chips, tips down, into the fruit.  Arrange the skewers on a honeydew melon half.

Smiley Face Toasties

What you need:  Wholemeal bread, Low-fat cheese grated, Tomato ketchup

What you do:  Lightly toast the bread on each side.  Cover one side with grated cheese, and draw a smiley face in tomato ketchup.  Pop it back under the grill for a minute or so to allow the cheese to melt and bubble.

Peanut Butter Apples

What you need:  Apples, Peanut Butter

What you do:  Cut an apple into chunks and spread each chunk with peanut butter this is a good source of protein and another very simple snack.

Yogurt Lollipops

What you need:  260g (1 cup) natural yogurt, 1 tbs honey, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence (optional), 80g fresh or thawed frozen raspberries/strawberries, wooden ice-cream sticks

What you do:  Line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper and place in the freezer to chill.  Combine the yogurt, honey and vanilla in a bowl.  Place the raspberries/strawberries in a bowl and use a fork to mash until almost pureed.  Add raspberries to yogurt mixture.   Spoon 2 tablespoons of the yogurt mixture onto the prepared tray and spread into a circle.  Repeat with the remaining yogurt mixture to make another 5 circles. Press a wooden ice-cream stick into the centre of each circle.   Place in the freezer for 2 hours or until firm.

Trail Mix
What you need:  Any dried fruit such as:  cranberries, apricots, bananas, strawberries, raisins, pineapple, or mango,  Cereal Flakes any type of wheat flakes,  Any type of nut such as: Almonds, walnuts, Peanuts etc.

What you need to do:  Mix all together in a small freezer plastic bag.
