December 2014 Update

December was a very busy month, with all our sessions coming drawing to a close before the christmas break. This included our adult cookery, Cooking Up A Story at St Joseph’s nursery, our aerobics and chair exercise classes, as well as the Friday walking group. The shop was extremely busy with lots of christmas fruit and veg orders from the local area, as well as fruit baskets, that proved to be very popular

Recipe Book Launch Event in Broomhouse

We are very excited to announce the launch of our new Recipe book ‘Tried & Tasted In Broomhouse’ which features a selection of simple, low cost, family-friendly recipes we have tried & tasted in our community cooking sessions! Everybody is welcome to join us for our all day launch event at our fruit & veg shop, 1 Broomhouse Market, EH11 3UU, on Tuesday 16th December 9am – 3:30pm.

November 2014 Update

Our “Cooking Up A Story” sessions have been running at Joseph’s primary school over the last few months, and they have gone down a storm! The sessions are an exciting way of linking storytelling with cooking skills, and is targeted at parents and their children, aged 8 years and younger. Each hour and a half session involves an interactive reading of a specially selected children’s story

October 2014 Update

We’ve been really delighted to see that the Chair Exercise sessions have been received so enthusiastically. We now have a regular bunch of 10 folk coming, with more adding each week. This week saw the introduction of some new equipment – colourful foam batons to give fun and variety to the sessions. We’re putting funding bids together to ensure these valuable sessions can continue next year.

September 2014 Update

The cooking and exercise sessions have resumed after the summer break, and have been proving very popular and much enjoyed by everyone. The recipes cooked are simple, healthy and wholesome, for example one sessions recipes were tuna and sweetcorn fishcakes, salad and poached pears – last week was mushroom pilaf rice and chocolate and beetroot cake!

August 2014 Update

Local residents in Broomhouse had a fun filled, activity packed sunny afternoon at our second Summer Street Party, in partnership with a number of local organisations to raise awareness about health and well-being services. Colourful creations were fashioned at the various art and craft stalls and tasty, yet healthy treats were created at the fruit face and smoothie making

July 2014 Update

We have been holding some special Summer Holiday Cooking Sessions, to provide a chance for parents and carers to cook with their children, to develop their skills and confidence to try new recipes at home. These sessions have been a great success with lots of family groups enjoying cooking pizza faces and fruit kebabs. Both children and adults have found the sessions very rewarding

June 2014 Update

Our Fruit and Veg Shop continues to bring in lots of new faces, and on any sunny days we are encouraging local people to join our volunteers for a chat about our services and a free cup of tea at our “Community Corner” just outside the shop. Its a way of creating more awareness of all the services we run, and giving the volunteers a greater role in helping to signpost local customers.
