The finale to the Broomhouse Summer Programme was the wonderful Street Party we held in Broomhouse Market on Thursday 13th August – in the last week of the school summer holidays. It was a successful and sunny day with over 300 people coming along between 11am and 3pm to enjoy a whole range of free activities, and to find out more about local health and wellbeing organisations.
There was a Fruit Art Challenge, Kite Making with the Big Project, Bookbug Storytelling sessions plus Cooking up a Story sessions, smoothie making, as well as workshops with the Forrester Rugby Club, the Rowing Challenge with Edinburgh Leisure, Hook at Duck with the Broomhouse Toddler Group. There was also Sumo wrestling for kids, nail and face painting and reflexology over at The Broomhouse Centre. We were delighted to have Tom from Vegware come along with his Bin Detectives stall – helping to spread the recycling message.
In total 18 local organisations took part and we had the wonderful support from 19 local volunteers who helped ensure the day ran smoothly with all the free activity stalls. The feedback has been so positive, with everyone saying how much they enjoyed the day, making new friends and finding out about local health improvement opportunities. The organisations who took part were all delighted with the number of new contacts they made – a great example of local people building valuable community connections.
Jackie, our Community Development Worker and Brydon, our Wednesday Shop Volunteer were also very pleased to be able to get along to the Vegware Community Fund Relaunch. Another great day – well done Vegware!
